Editor for music texts
If you need an editor for your written materials about music – dissertations, textbooks, programs – you need a specialist
I will edit your music-related materials for clarity and consistency, no matter how complex your topic. As a music specialist, I understand the language of music, including music terminology and notation. I have a master’s degree in musicology, an editing certificate from Simon Fraser University, and years of experience performing, teaching, researching, and writing about music. Let’s discuss your project.
Music dissertation and thesis editing
I can help you complete your dissertation so that you can put all your years of hard work behind you. Working within your institution’s guidelines, I will edit your music dissertation or thesis so that it is clear, consistent, and error-free. I can also check your tables, figures, and musical examples to ensure their format, capitalization, and punctuation is consistent. Whether you use in-text citations or footnotes, I will make sure they are consistent and adhere to your preferred style guide. I also provide editing for bibliographies or reference pages.
I am experienced with APA, Chicago, and Turabian style guides. I can also follow your institution’s specific style guidelines.
Whether you are preparing your final draft for defence or making revisions based on your advisors’ comments, I can help you graduate, while adhering to your institution’s guidelines for hiring an editor.
What is a style sheet in editing?
A style sheet is an essential, time-saving tool to help you ensure your writing is consistent throughout your paper. With a style sheet, you won’t have to constantly look up your chosen rules or preferences for hyphenation, capitalization, abbreviations, and more. I make a style sheet for most of my editing projects. If you don’t feel you need an editor right now, you may want to create your own style sheet. Drop me a line if you would like some tips on getting started, or read on for more information.
A style sheet stipulates how various elements should be dealt with.
For example, a style sheet for your music document can address:
the format that will be used for chord symbols (e.g., A minor, A min, or Am), accidentals (C#, C sharp, or C-sharp), and other nomenclature
the names of musical pieces and whether they should be in italics, quotation marks, or set in Roman type
words that must be capitalized (e.g., Table 7 or table 7; medieval or Medieval)
the correct spelling for proper nouns and other words that can have multiple spellings
A style sheet can save you time! Even when you follow a particular style guide and dictionary, having a style sheet means you don’t have to constantly look something up in the guide. A style sheet also contains information specific to your writing project that may not be addressed in the style guide.
Editor for music instructional materials
If you have instructional materials that need anything from a light copyedit to some reorganization, I can help. I can also check your music notation examples and point out any discrepancies.
